Mesa police officer Spencer Allen was arrested after a property manager witnessed him dragging a brown dog behind his pickup truck, causing fatal injuries to the canine.

According to Apache Junction police, multiple witnesses came forward and claimed they made several attempts to stop Allen, but he reportedly accelerated up to 45 miles per hour.

According to documents, a witness who wished to not be identified said he got Allen to stop and watched as the police officer grabbed the dog by the scruff of his neck and threw it in the back seat.

Spencer Allen then went to an animal shelter and told the staff members that he found an injured animal hit by a car and wanted it euthanized. He was directed to seek help at a Mesa veterinary clinic.

When questioned by police, Allen initially lied and repeated the story that the dog was hit by a vehicle and even made jokes about the dog’s condition. He later relented and confessed.

According to police, Allen said, “every chance they can get to crucify someone, it’s gonna happen… it’s my time on the chopping block.”
