First came the loud, desperate barking and yelping, then a frightening sight all caught on surveillance camera: a large coyote chasing the family pet through the Chatsworth, California backyard then clamping its jaws on the poor pup’s neck.
The coyote starts to make a run for it with the little dog dangling from its mouth; luckily, homeowners Larry and Kerri Ruiz heard the commotion and came to the rescue of their beloved pet.
Kerri quickly sprang into action and grabbed her secret weapon, an air horn that she keeps right by her backyard door that she specifically uses to ward off wild animals.

Chico the Chihuahua is lucky to be alive. Aside from a few scratches and a broken rib, she is healthy, happy, and most importantly, safe with his loving family.
From now on, Chico’s owners say they will never leave their dogs unattended.
