
Legendary TV actor Ed Asner passed away peacefully on Sunday morning at the age of 91, as confirmed by his family on Twitter:
We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully. Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head- Goodnight dad. We love you.

Asner is best known as irritable TV news director Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He won three back-to-back Emmy Awards for the role in 1971-1973.
He reprised his role on the spinoff Lou Grant, winning him two more Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Asner picked up more Emmys for roles in Roots and Rich Man, Poor Man, making him the actor with the most Emmys won, with his total of seven.
His four children and grandchildren survive him.
