Authorities are investigating a fire that killed 75 dogs at the Ponderosa Pet Resort facility in Georgetown, Texas.

Georgetown Fire Chief John Sullivan said that the thick smoke from the Saturday night blaze made it impossible for the fire crew to rescue animals trapped in the facility.

All 75 dogs staying at the resort perished in the fire, according to officials.

“‘Our hearts go out to those affected by this tragedy. Each dog that died was a cherished family member,” Sullivan added.

There were no reported injuries to humans.

The cause of the pet resort fire is still under investigation.
