A 47-year-old Louisiana man was arrested after calling 911 to report that he was hit by a Tesla, but video footage reviewed by authorities told a very different story.

According to the Slidell Police Department, Arthur Bates Jr. called 911 claiming that a Tesla had backed into him, causing neck and back injuries at around 4 p.m. Friday.

Bates insisted that the Tesla driver did a hit-and-run, but when police contacted the driver, he claimed Bates made up the whole thing – and there was video proof that the entire thing was a fabrication.

Unbeknownst to the aspiring con artist, The self-driving car recorded the entire incident.

When Slidell police officers viewed the video footage, it became abundantly clear that Bates staged the whole thing and was lying, the department said in a prepared statement.

After being confronted by police, the suspect admitted to faking being hit and was arrested on a charge of false swearing with the intent to cause an emergency response.
